When I got home and explained my logic to my wife, she echoed my thoughts, but with a slightly different twist. It went something like this, "It just doesn't make any sense! Why would anyone buy 25 chickens?"
Well that's behind us now and the chickens are getting bigger by the day. Our 25 Dominique and 4 Speckled Sussex chickens arrived on May the 5th as tiny little balls of fluff and feathers. At 14 weeks old today, we have approximately 6 more weeks before eggs. Being heritage breeds, they will take longer to mature then your average hybrid breeds that most people raise these days. Our goal at Redstone Ridge Farm is to raise and grow as many heritage breeds and heritage varieties as possible.
They are a lot of fun to watch and we have all enjoyed each step in their development. As it turns out, Chickens are a good idea.....so far.

So I learned a lot about you guys in one blog post.
ReplyDelete1) You have 50+acres (I didn't know it was that much).
2) Your farm has a name. DId you guys name it or did you inherit it?
3) The logic behind so many chickens...makes sense to me. When can we eat one?
